Uses

3-Methoxycarbonyl-3-sulfolene is a useful reactant for the synthesis of bicyclic and tricyclic compounds.

Purification Methods

If the IR shows OH bands, then dissolve the dioxide in CHCl2, wash it with aqueous Na2CO3 and H2O, dry it over MgSO4, filter, evaporate and wash the residue with cold Et2O and dry in vacuo. 1HNMR (CDCl3): 7.00 (m 1H), 3.98 (bs 4H) and 3.80 (s Me).
