Psyllium Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Light yellow-brown powder, slightly special odor. Aqueous solution is highly viscous, filamentous transparent solution, when the aqueous solution is heated to 90℃, it forms a viscoelastic gel. Weak water holding capacity, easy to dry. In contact with water, it is first expanded and then gradually hydrated, if the hydration time or speed is not enough, it is easy to become granular.
Uses
Psyllium is a gum obtained from the plant of the plantago genus. it hydrates slowly to form a viscous dispersion of concentrations up to 1%. a clear, gelatinous mass is formed at 2%. it is used in bulk laxa- tives. psyllium husk, having a purity of no less than 95% is a source of beta-glucan soluble fiber.
Definition
ChEBI: Psyllic acid is a very long-chain fatty acid.
Clinical Use
Bulk-forming laxative
