LANTHANUM PERCHLORATE Usage And Synthesis
Uses
Lanthanum(III) perchlorate hexahydrate participates in the preparation of the Schiff base complexes of lanthanide (III) ions. When hydrated lanthanum perchlorate in ethanolic solution is treated with an ethanolic solution of terpyridine, [La(terpy)3](CIO4)3 is deposited as very small crystals.
Synthesis
Lanthanum perchlorate can be prepared by treating measured quantities of lanthanum oxide with a hot dilute perchloric acid solution, filtering and then evaporating the filtrate to dryness on a water bath using a rotary evaporator.
