BIS(TRIPHENYLPHOSPHINE)DICARBONYLNICKEL Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
light yellow crystals or crystalline powder
Uses
Catalyst for:
- Cyclotrimerization reactions
- Cyclooligomerization reactions
Uses
Catalyst in polymerization of acetylene to benzene and styrene, trimerization of ethynyl Compounds, cyclization of butadiene.
reaction suitability
core: nickel
reagent type: catalyst
Synthesis
The preparative method of Bis(triphenylphosphine)dicarbonylnickel: by treating Tetracarbonylnickel with 2 equiv of Triphenylphosphine or by dissolving Dichlorobis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(II) in ethanol and treating it with CO in the presence of MeSNa. Purification: recrystallize from benzene.
Precautions
Catalytic activity decreases with storage. It is likely to be toxic, similar to nickel carbonyl, but its low volatility makes it easy to avoid ingestion. Use in a fume hood.
