Synthesis
N,N-dihydroxyethyl-p-toluidine can be synthesized by the following steps: 1 000 g of p-toluidine and 10 g of water were added to a 5L autoclave, the temperature was raised to 60 ~ 65 and stirred for 30 min, then 100 g of ethylene oxide was added to the autoclave and the temperature was maintained at 65 ~ 70 for 4 h. Then 100 g of ethylene oxide was added to the autoclave and the temperature was maintained at 70 ~ 75 for 4 h, and the reaction was finished. The reaction was carried out at 70 80 for 3 h and cooled to 30 . The reaction solution was added to the distillation kettle, and the product was collected at 143 148 (1.3 1.6 kPa), the yield was 86%, and the purity of the product was more than 98%, and the former fraction could be recycled to improve the yield. The product is light yellow solid.
