(3R)-3-dodecanoyloxy-4-trimethylammonio-butanoate Usage And Synthesis

Uses

Lauroyl-L-carnitine may be used as an analytical standard to determine the content of the analyte in maize plants using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole-liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The exogenous application of carnitine stimulates the transportation of fatty acids into mitochondria. The possible effect of carnitine on the lipid trafficking between cytoplasm, mitochondrial matrix and the mitochondrial respiration in the leaves of maize grown under normal and cold conditions is investigated. It may also be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in human urine samples using liquid chromatography/electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI-MS/MS).

Definition

ChEBI: An O-acyl-L-carnitine in which the acyl group is specified as lauroyl (dodecanoyl).

General Description

C12 Carnitine or lauroyl L-carnitine, is a lauric acid-derived serum acylcarnitine. It mediates obesity-induced inflammation in adipose. Elevated levels of lauroyl carnitine in carcinoma-associated fibroblasts (CAF)-adipose tissue acts as a biomarker for obesity, insulin resistance and inflammation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lauroyl-L-carnitine is an acylcarnitine is present in fatty acid oxidation disorders such as long-chain acyl CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, carnitine palmitoyltransferase I deficiency, and carnitine palmitoyltransferase II deficiency.
