Strontium aluminate acts as a photo luminescent phosphor with long persistence of phosphorescence.

Uses

The SrO·Al2O3 system is of interest in industry because of the use of the intermediate compounds for hydraulic cements, laser matrices, and long-duration photoluminescence or thermoluminescence pigments.

Preparation

Strontium aluminate can be prepared by reaction of the oxides at about 700–900°C:
SrO + Al2O3 + heat→SrAl2O4
