Application
COPPER(II) BENZOYLACETONATE can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate and an organic synthesis intermediate, and can be used in the preparation of optical materials and in laboratory research and development processes.

Synthesis
Copper benzoylacetone was prepared as follows: 100 cc of hexane was prepared as a solvent, 150 g of copper (I) chloride was added to this solvent and the mixture was stirred well to obtain a homogeneous suspension. To this suspension, 70g of benzoyl phenyl ketone was added at room temperature while slowly adding a small amount and all of it within 1 hour. The suspension was heated to reflux at 70??C and the reaction solution was filtered. The solvent was removed from the filtrate obtained by depressurization at 20 Torr for 1 hour. The remaining residue was recrystallized with 100 cc of hexane to give crystals of bis(benzoylacetonyl)copper.
