Uses
2-Amino-3-nitropyridine is a herbicide and functions in plant growth-promoting activity. It also functions as an intermediate in the preparation of N-(pyridinyl)benzenesulfonamides with antibacterial and antifungal activities.

2-Amino-3-nitropyridine functionalizes Wang resin via a carbamate linkage.

General procedure for the synthesis of 2-amino-3-nitropyridine from 2-chloro-3-nitropyridine: 1. 2-chloro-3-nitropyridine (4 g, 25.23 mmol) was added to a sealed tube. 2. ammonia solution (8.57 g, 504.6 mmol) was added to the sealed tube. 3. The reaction mixture was heated to 90 °C and the reaction was stirred at this temperature for 16 hours. 4. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was cooled to 0 °C. 5. The product was separated by filtration to give 3-nitropyridin-2-amine (3.4 g, 97% yield) as a yellow solid. 6. 6. Product characterization data: 1HNMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 6.74 (m, 1H), 7.87 (s, 2H), 8.38 (m, 2H). MS m/z (M + H): 140.3.
