Fine needle-shaped crystals are obtained from carbon tetrachloride, with a melting point of 155-157°C.

Uses

2,4,6-Triiodoresorcinol is a iodinated derivative of Resorcinol (R144700), a benzene derivative used as keratolytic and antiseborrheic. Also used in veterinary medicine as a topical antipruritic and antiseptic (has been used as intestinal antiseptic).

Synthesis

In a three-necked flask, add 8.0g of sodium bicarbonate, 3.0g of resorcinol, add 150mL of water to dissolve, add aqueous solution of iodine and potassium iodide dropwise with stirring, and control the temperature of the water at 9~11??. After dropping, let it stand for 1h, filter, wash the filter cake with water, dry the filter cake at 50??C, recrystallize with carbon tetrachloride, decolorize with activated carbon, get white needle-like crystals, even after drying, get crystals of 9.4g, the yield is 70%.
