Synthesis

General procedure for the synthesis of benzyl (3-hydroxycyclohexyl) carbamate from 3-aminocyclohexanol and benzyl chloroformate: 3-hydroxycyclohexylamine (10 g, 86.96 mmol), potassium carbonate (18 g, 130 mmol), ethyl acetate (150 mL), and water (70 mL) were mixed, followed by the addition of benzyl chloroformate (22.17 g, 130 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the organic layer was separated, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. To the concentrated residue diethyl ether was added, a white precipitate was precipitated, filtered and air-dried to give benzyl (3-hydroxycyclohexyl) carbamate 19.1 g in 88% yield. Mass spectrum (m/z): 250 (M+).
