Borazane acts as a mild, efficient, and stereoselective reducing agent for aldehydes and ketones in protic or nonprotic media.It can be used as a storage medium for release of hydrogenBorazane is popularly used as an ammonia borane (AB) source for the formation of hexagonal boron nitride monolayers which are used as a substrate for graphene growth.
Uses
Borane ammonia complex is a proposed storage medium for hydrogen in motor fuel vehicles, also used in organic synthesis.

Synthesis
Ammonia was bubbled through 30 ml of dimethylaniline borane (containing 70 mmol of borane) in 30 ml of toluene until all dimethylaniline was consumed. The reaction was monitored by 11B NMR spectroscopy. Removal of dimethylaniline and toluene was then carried out by filtration of the white solid ammonia borane, which was washed three times with toluene. The product was dried under vacuum.
