Hydrogenated Polydecene Usage And Synthesis

Chemical Properties

Hydrogenated Polydecene is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid. It is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and soluble in toluene. It is combustible upon exposure to an open flame, emitting a distinctive paraffin-like odor. This substance is a mixture of isoparaffinic hydrocarbon molecules of known structures, primarily refined from the hydrogenated mixture of 1-decene trimers to hexamers.

Uses

Poly(1-decene) may be used to estimate the pour point (PP) properties of palm oil methyl esters.

Definition

ChEBI: 1-decene is an alkene that is decane containing one double bond at position 1. It has a role as a metabolite. Polydecene is a synthetic polymer that is used in cosmetics as an emollient and skin-softener. The term 'hydrogenated' refers to the chemical conversion of a liquid to a semi-solid or solid form by using hydrogen gas under high pressure. This process lets oils remain liquid at room temperatures.

General Description

Poly(1-decene) belongs to the class of polyolefins. It is a thermoplastic.

Contact allergens

Hydrogenated Polydecene is commonly used in skincare products such as moisturizers, serums, and sunscreens due to its emollient properties that help to soften and smooth the skin. It is also found in anti-aging formulations for its ability to improve skin texture and provide a protective barrier.
