General Description

4,4′-Difluorobenzophenone is typically used as a starting material for the preparation of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) polymer, a high-temperature thermoplastic, which finds wide use in dentistry as well as in automotive, oil industries, etc.

Synthesis

??Mix 200g of fluorobenzene with 65g of anhydrous aluminum trichloride, cool to 0-5??, add 100g of p-fluorotrichloromethylbenzene dropwise reaction for 20min, get 4,4'-difluorophenyl dichloromethane;

??Add 4,4'-difluorophenyl dichloromethane to 600g of water mixing, heating To the azeotropic temperature at the same time recycling fluorobenzene 140g, reaction 5h, cooling to room temperature, filtration, drying to get light yellow solid crude 102g, using 200g methanol recrystallization, filtration, washing, drying, to get the melting point of 107-108 ?? white crystals 92g, the purity of gas chromatography analysis of 99.9%, the yield is 90%. Detected by 1H-NMR: ??7.28 (4H, t, hydrogen adjacent to the fluorine on the benzene ring); ??7.81 (4H, m, hydrogen adjacent to the carbonyl on the benzene ring), which is consistent with the structure of 4,4'-difluorobenzophenone.
