Uses

1,3,5,7-Tetraphenyladamantane is a useful synthetic intermediate in the preparation of nanoporous amide networks (NAN), which are used to selectively capture CO2 from anthropogenic emissions.

Synthesis

Preparation of 1,3,5,7-tetraphenyladamantane: 5.0g (23.2mmol) of 1-bromoadamantane was dissolved in a three-necked flask containing 30.92ml (348mmol) of benzene solution, which was fitted with a magnetic stirrer, a condenser tube, and a thermometer, and 5.0ml (44.5mmol) of tertiary butyl bromide and 0.5g (3.75mmol) of aluminum trichloride were then added. of aluminum trichloride. The mixture was heated to reflux for 1h, cooled to room temperature and poured into a mixture of ice and water, then ether was added and stirred, the precipitate was collected, dried naturally and purified in a Soxhlet extractor by washing with chloroform for 24h.The precipitate obtained was 1,3,5,7-tetraphenyladamantane, which was dried under vacuum at 50??C for 5h, to give 4.5g of product in 44.1% yield.
