Dichlorotris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(II) serves as a precatalyst for the hydrogenation of alkenes, nitro compounds, ketones, carboxylic acids, synthesis of furans from allenyl sulfides and C-H Activation Catalyst in a Ruthenium/Lewis Acid System

Preparation

Tris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(II) chloride can be prepared by refluxing hydrated Ruthenium(III) Chloride and Triphenylphosphine in ethanol  according to the procedure of Wilkinson.

General Description

Tris(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium(II) chloride can be used in the hydrogenation of nitro groups, imines, and ketones, and the selective oxidation of alcohols.
