2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Colorless transparent liquid. Freezing point -60°C; boiling point 375°C, 239°C (1.33 kPa); relative density 1.080-1.090 (25°C); refractive index 1.506-1.512 (25°C). Miscible with general organic solvents, insoluble in water.
Uses
Pharmaceuticaid (plasticizer).
Uses
2-Ethylhexyl Diphenyl Phosphate can be used as a flame retardant, an additive or a plasticizer for resins. It is considered as an emerging contaminant.
Definition
ChEBI: Octicizer is an aryl phosphate.
General Description
Pale yellow liquid. Insoluble in water.
Air & Water Reactions
Insoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile
Organophosphates, such as 2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate, are susceptible to formation of highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas in the presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides. Partial oxidation by oxidizing agents may result in the release of toxic phosphorus oxides
Health Hazard
ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: Toxic. Hazardous decomposition products. Experimental carcinogen.
Fire Hazard
Probably combustible.
Toxicology
2-Ethylhexyl Diphenyl Phosphate has only a very low acute toxicity (LD50, oral, rat and rabbit, more than 24 000 mg/kg). No indications of carcinogenic effects were found in rats after two years of administration of the substance in the feed (up to 1%). 2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate was not genotoxic in the Ames test, the HGPRT test, and the in vivo chromosome aberration test in rats. No teratogenic effects were observed in rats, and development of the offspring was only impaired at maternally toxic doses.
Safety Profile
Poison by intravenous route. Moderately toxic by intraperitoneal route. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of POx,.
Synthesis
Separately 76.5g (0.5mol) trichlorophosphorus (first trichlorophosphorus into the preheater preheating, preheating temperature of 50-60 , preheating at the same time add Lewis acid 0.75 g (trichlorophosphorus weight of 1%), 94g (1mol) phenol, through the transfer pump into the reaction tower for the reaction, the temperature of the tower for the reaction tower of 118 ~ 120 , the vacuum degree of 70 ~ 75KPa. Vacuum degree 70 ~ 75KPa, the material in the reaction tower reaction 30 minutes, input into the decompression reactor, in the top of the tower to reach 120 , the bottom of the tower to reach 150 , the vacuum degree of 30 KPa, by decompression distillation evaporation of monophenylphosphoryl chloride intermediates and part of the trichlorooxygenated phosphorus recycling and reuse, the decompression reactor the rest of the intermediate diphenylphosphoryl chloride 183g (1mol) and iso Octanol 195 (1.5mol) sent to the pump into the reaction tower for reaction, the temperature of the reaction tower is 68 ~ 70 , vacuum 70 ~ 75KPa, reaction time 30 minutes, to get the crude diphenyl isooctyl phosphate, the crude diphenyl isooctyl phosphate obtained in the reaction kettle with a 3% sodium hydroxide solution for washing, water washing and layering, decompression distillation to 100 , the vacuum degree is 70 ~ 75KPa The crude diphenyl isooctyl phosphate was washed with 3% sodium hydroxide solution in a reaction kettle.
