General Description

2-Norbornanemethanol undergoes condensation reaction with methacryloyl chloride to yield bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ylmethyl 2-methylacrylate comonomer for synthesis of fluorinated poly(maleimide-co-glycidylmethacrylate).

Synthesis

Ru precursor (1.6 mol%) and imidazolium were added to norbornene methanol. The reactor was warmed to the desired reaction temperature for 17 h with a CO2/H2 pressurized reactor. The reactor was cooled and the product was extracted with Et2O (3 x 15 mL) to give 2-norbornene methanol.
