Uses

Ethyl 8''-apo-β-caroten-8''-oate is an antioxidant β-carotene (C184250) found in marigold flowers and oranges. It is also used as an organic dye in cosmetics.

Purification Methods

Recrystallise the ester from pet ether or pet ether/EtOAc. Store it in the dark under N2 or Ar at -20o. [Beilstein 9 IV 2701 for Me ester]
