Refrigerant.
General Description
Colorless solid with a slight, ether-like odor. [Mp: 40.6°C; bp: 91.5°C.
Reactivity Profile
1,1-DIFLUOROTETRACHLOROETHANE is non-flammable. Incompatible with active metals such as potassium, sodium, beryllium, powdered aluminum, zinc, magnesium, and calcium. Reacts with acids.
Hazard
Central nervous system impairment, liver and kidney damage.
Safety Profile
Mildly toxic by inhalation. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of Cland F-. Used as a refrigerant. See also FLUORIDES.
Potential Exposure
Used as a refrigerant, corrosion inhibitor; and blowing agent; making plastics. 1,1,2,2-is used as a refrigerant, a solvent extractant; and in the dry cleaning industry.
