General procedure for the synthesis of 5-bromo-2,4-bis(phenylmethoxy)-pyrimidine from 5-bromo-2,4-dichloropyrimidine and benzyl alcohol: 6.7 mL (65 mmol) of benzyl alcohol was dissolved in 70 mL of anhydrous toluene, and reacted with 2.9 g of NaH (60 mmol) under nitrogen protection until the gas production stopped. The resulting suspension was cooled to room temperature and slowly added dropwise to a solution of 5-bromo-2,4-dichloropyrimidine 4.5 g (20 mmol) with stirring, ensuring that the reaction temperature did not exceed 25 °C. The reaction was carried out at room temperature. After completion of the dropwise addition, the reaction was continued with stirring at room temperature for 12 hours. At the end of the reaction, the precipitated sodium chloride was removed by filtration and the solvent was evaporated to give 5-bromo-2,4-bis(phenylmethoxy)-pyrimidine 3.44 g in 93% yield.
