Polyacetal resins Usage And Synthesis
Industrial uses
Acetal resin can be molded in standard injectionmolding equipment at conventional productionrates. The processing temperature is around204°C. Satisfactory performance has been demonstratedin full-automatic injection machinesusing multicavity molds. Successful commercialmoldings point up the ability of the materialto be molded to form large-area parts with thinsections, heavy parts with thick sections, partsrequiring glossy surfaces or different surfacetextures, parts requiring close tolerances, partswith undercuts for snap fits, parts requiring metal inserts, and parts requiring no flash. Itcan also be extruded as rod, tubing, sheeting, jacketing, wire coating, or shapes on standardcommercial equipment. Extrusion temperaturesare in the range of 199 to 204°C.
Generally the same equipment and techniquesfor blow molding other thermoplasticswork with acetal resin. Both thin-walled andthick-walled containers (aerosol type) can beproduced in many shapes and surface textures.Various sheet-forming techniques includingvacuum, pressure, and matched-mold have beensuccessfully used with acetal resins.
