ZINGIBERENE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Colorless oily liquid. Sp.Gr. 0.87. B.P. 270°C. Freshly prepared material has a warm, woody-spicy and very tenacious odor with a peculiar deep sweetness.
Uses
Since it is the major component of Ginger oil, and the "oxygenated" components of that oil have been found to be rather common and available materials, there could be a future interest in the subject material for reconstitution of Ginger oil if and when it becomes scarce. Furthermore, it has potential interest to the perfumer in its warm-balsamic, almost "Oriental" character, which may remind an observer of Opopanax or Bisabolene.
Solubility in organics
Soluble in alcohol and oils.
