General Description

Complexation abilities of 2,2′-dipyridyl N,N′-dioxide (2,2′-bipyridyl-N,N′-dioxide, bipyO₂) as a ligand towards zinc has been compared with 2,2′-bipyridine. Novel lanthanide (Eu³⁺, Tb³⁺, Gd³⁺, Sm³⁺ and Dy³⁺) complexes of bipyO₂ were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectrum. Electron density study of halogen-bonded complex of bipyO₂ with 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene (F₄dIb) at 90K by X-ray diffraction has been reported.
