Samarium trifluoride Usage And Synthesis
Uses
Samarium Fluoride has specialized uses in glass, phosphors, lasers, and thermoelectric devices. Samarium-doped Calcium Fluoride crystals were used as an active medium in one of the first solid-state lasers designed and constructed. These magnets are found in small motors, headphones, and high-end magnetic pickups for guitars and related musical instruments.
Chemical Properties
Samarium (III) fluoride is a yellow solid or odourless powder and slightly hygroscopic. It is insoluble in water. Workers should avoid open flame, moisture, and strong acids.
Uses
Samarium(III) fluoride is used as laboratory reagent, in optical glasses, structural ceramics, catalysts, electrical components and photo-optical material. It has specialized uses in phosphors, lasers, and thermoelectric devices.
