Uses

According to HSDB , EGME has been used in the manufacture of plastics and lacquers and also in the production of protective coatings.

Synthesis

Dissolve 28g of potassium hydroxide in 2000g of ethylene glycol, add to the 4L reactor, warm up and nitrogen replacement at the same time, then use acetylene to replace the nitrogen, warm up to 180 ??, the pressure of 0MPaG, acetylene flow rate of 240L/h control, the reaction for 6 days, the reaction process is constantly replenished with ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol preheated by the preheater and then added to the reactor, so that the level of the reaction liquid in the reactor to maintain constant On the 2nd and 4th day, 651g of reaction solution was replaced and 13g of potassium hydroxide was added at the same time. The new reaction solution was preheated in the preheater before being added to the reactor, and the reaction products were continuously taken out of the reactor by acetylene, and a collection solution was formed by distillation and condensation, and the collection solution obtained in the receiver contained 0.23% of 2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane by mass, 25.40% by mass, and no ethylene glycol by mass. The mass content of 2-methyl-1,3-dioxolane was 0.23%, 2-vinyloxyethanol was 25.40%, there was no ethylene glycol divinyl ether, the mass content of ethylene glycol was 74.03%, and the mass content of other total impurities was 0.34%, and the collector solution was distilled to obtain 2-vinyloxyethanol with 99.7% purity.
