General procedure for the synthesis of 5-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-amines from 2-amino-3-trifluoromethylpyridine: Step A Synthesis of 5-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinamine [0120] To a solution of N,N-dimethylformamide (100 mL) containing 3-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinamine (12.2 g, 75 mmol), N-chlorosuccinimide (10.5 g, 79 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was heated to 60 °C and stirred continuously for 1 hour. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to room temperature and subsequently concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography using dichloromethane as eluent to give 5-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-amine (13.0 g, 88% yield). m/z 197 (M + 1) by LCMS.
