2,7-Dichloro-9-fluorenone may be used in chemical synthesis.

Synthesis

A method for the oxidation of fluorene compounds to prepare the 9-fluorenone analog 2,7-dichloro-9-fluorenone, comprising the steps of adding 20 g of 2,7-dichlorofluorene (0.085 mol), 120 ml of tetrahydrofuran, and 7.15 g of potassium hydroxide (0.128 mol), turning on the stirring, and reacting for 2 hr at room temperature, to a 250 ml three-necked flask fitted with a reflux condenser tube and mechanical stirring. The reaction solution was filtered to remove potassium hydroxide, and the filtrate was washed with water three times after removing the solvent by distillation and dried to give 2,7-dichloro-9-fluorenone with 99.2% purity and 98.9% yield.
