Pineneedle Oil Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
Siberian fir needle oil is obtained by steam distillation of needles and twigs of Abies sibirica Ledeb., the Siberian silver fir. It is an almost
colorless or pale yellow liquid with a characteristic fir odor.

≤10 vol of 90% ethanol.The main constituents are bornyl acetate (20–35%) and the monoterpene hydrocarbons α-pinene (10–22%) and camphene (15–26%). The main producer of Siberian fir needle oil is Russia, with a quantity of ~50 t/yr.

Safety Profile
Mildly toxic by ingestion. A human and experimental skin irritant. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
