N,N′-Bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (salen) immobilized on surfactant-coated alumina has been used as complexing agent for on-line preconcentration of copper and lead by flow injection-flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FI-AAS).

General Description

N,N′-Bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (salen) reacts with ferric chloride in acetone solution to yield the complex (Fe salen Cl).

c) General steps for synthesizing VO (salen) catalysts: Step 1: Synthesis of salen ligand Salicylaldehyde (7.307 g, 6.38 mL, 0.0598 mol) was mixed with ethylenediamine (1.798 g, 2 mL, 0.0299 mol) in anhydrous ethanol and the reaction was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. After completion of the reaction, the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with ethanol and subsequently dried in air. 7.25 g of salen ligand was obtained in 90% yield.
