The general procedure for the synthesis of 6-fluoro-5-methoxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-one from 3-(4-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid (2 g, 10 mmol) and methanesulfonic acid (15 ml) is as follows: 3-(4-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid was sealed with methanesulfonic acid in a 20 ml process vial, and the reaction was carried out by heating under microwave radiation at 90°C for for 10 minutes. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was poured into ice water and neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution. Subsequently, the precipitated solid product was collected and dried to give 1.7 g of the target compound in 93.5% yield. The result of the material spectrum analysis of the product: LC-MS m/e 181 (MH+).
