Uses

Piperonyl Alcohol acts as an anti-oxidant on lipid peroxidation through inhibition. It is also used as a reagent in improving stability and antioxidant characteristics of sesame oil through spray-dried emulsions.

Synthesis

A method of synthesizing piperonyl alcohol by catalytic hydrogenation, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: i. adding piperonyl aldehyde solution and raney nickel to a hydrogenation reactor, wherein the mass ratio of piperonyl aldehyde to raney nickel is 1: (0.01-1), and replacing the air in the hydrogenation reactor with an inert gas; ii. adding hydrogen and raising the temperature to 30-150??C for the catalytic hydrogenation reaction, with the hydrogen pressure at 0.5-5MPa, and after the reaction, filtering and recovering raney nickel, the filtrate is subjected to decompression distillation to obtain the recovered solvent and piperonyl alcohol crude product. 5MPa, after the end of the reaction filtration to recover Raney nickel, filtrate for decompression distillation to get the recovery of solvents and piperonyl alcohol crude.
