Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid dipotassium salt dihydrate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
white fine crystalline powder
Uses
Pharmaceutic aid (chelating agent).
Uses
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid dipotassium salt dihydrate is used to eliminate inhibition of enzyme catalyzed reactions due to traces of heavy metals. It is involved in the study of chelators, biochemicals and reagents as well as in the study of the three dimensional hierarchy structures from self-assembly of quantum dots. It also acts as a catalyst by partially removing thiol stabilizers from the nanoparticle surface to induce the stabilization reaction of CdTe nanoparticles.
Uses
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid dipotassium salt dihydrate (K2EDTA) can be used as:
- A mobile phase modifier in the separation of UV filters using HPLC.
- A chelating agent in the determination of traces of beryllium compound by colorimetric method.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is an anticoagulant, majorly used in preventing clotting of blood. EDTA may trigger aggregation of platelets resulting in pseudothrombocytopenia. EDTA-tetracycline therapy decreases coronary artery calcium levels in atherosclerosis. Calcium disodium EDTA administration is effective in slowing down the progression of chronic kidney disease. It also enhances the antimicrobial functionality of lysozyme and improves shelf life of cheese.
