Pseudohypericin Usage And Synthesis

Uses

Pseudohypericin is a specific inhibitor of protein kinase C and D-β-Hydroxylase. Also, it is used in determination of potential drug candidate molecules of Hypericum perforatum for COVID-19 treatment.

Biological Activity

One of the major bioactive constituents of St. Johnμs wort (Hypericum perforatum). Implicated in the antidepressant efficacy of St. Johnμs wort.

Synthesis

Pseudohypericin will be extracted by the means of water immersion means pre-treatment of Hypericum perforatum raw materials, by alcohol extraction to extract solvent containing hypericin and pseudohypericin and other active ingredients, through the heating and steaming concentration of the extract solvent, to get rich in active ingredients of the extract, can be used for direct drying of the preparation of extract extracts of the extract powder, and can also be further separated, the preparation of high purity of the hypericin and pseudohypericin. Specifically: the method of extracting and preparing a dry powder of the extract in accordance with internationally accepted standards from the raw material of Hypericum perforatum, characterized in that: the raw material of Hypericum perforatum is crushed, pretreated by soaking in water, and then the pretreated raw material is extracted with an alcoholic solution in order to obtain an alcoholic solution containing hypericin and pseudohypericin, and the extracted alcoholic solution is separated, and then the extraction solvent is concentrated, dried, and extracted soaking paste powder is prepared , or used for further refinement to prepare high content active ingredient extracts.

Enzyme inhibitor

This anti-retroviral agent (FW = 520.45 g/mol) inhibits protein kinase C with an IC50 value of 28.7 μM and dopamine b-hydroxylase with IC50 = 3 μM. Pseudohypericin is a component of St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum). Target(s): dopamine b-hydroxylase; inositoltrisphosphate 3-kinase; and protein kinase C.
