General procedure for the synthesis of benzo[b]thiophen-2-amine from tert-butyl benzothiophen-2-ylcarbamate: tert-butyl 1-benzothiophen-2-ylcarbamate (1.0 g, 4.01 mmol) was added to a solution of 1-benzothiophen-2-ylcarbamate in dichloromethane (DCM, 10 mL), and the reaction was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was concentrated and the resulting residue was redissolved in dichloromethane, washed sequentially with 1N sodium hydroxide solution (2 x 50 mL) and saturated saline, and the organic phase was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. The drier was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated to give the pure benzo[b]thiophen-2-amine (0.54 g, 91% yield).LCMS (m/z): 150.0 (M + H).
