Uses

4-Hydroxy-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine-2-thiol is a pyrimidine derivative that can be used to prepare drugs for cancer treatment, antibacterial activity, antimalarial treatment, and arthritis treatment; it can also be used in the synthesis of herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. For example, the antimalarial drug pyrimethamine, the antihypertensive drug minoxidil, the anticancer drug 5-fluorouracil, and the pesticide fungicides ethirimol and methylpyrimethanil all contain pyrimidine structures.

General Description

4-Hydroxy-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine-2-thiol (HTPT) can form a stable monolayer on the Au(111) surface.

Synthesis

A 250mL three-necked flask equipped with mechanical stirring and a reflux condenser tube was charged with 27.6g (0.15 mol) ethyl trifluoroacetoacetate, 11.4g (0.15 mol) thiourea,100 mLDMF, heated to 120??C, and the reaction was carried out for 4 hours. Cooling, decompression recovery of solvent, cooling precipitation of crystals, filtration, washed with water, the product 4-hydroxy-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyrimidine-2-thiol 25.3g (yield: 86.0%).
