Cyclamic acid Usage And Synthesis
Aroma
Practically odorless. Initially sour, then sweet taste (sweet aftertaste).
Chemical Properties
White Solid
Uses
A non-nutritive sweetener.
The sweetness is approximately 30 times
that of cane sugar, while the acidity provided
by this material is even greater than that
derived from an equal weight of Citric acid.
Cyclamic acid is being used on an increasing
scale (1966) as a sweet acidifying agent in soft
drinks of no nutritional value (diet-soda, lowc.rdorie carbonated beverages, etc.).
Definition
ChEBI: A member of the class of sulfamic acids that is sulfamic acid carrying an N-cyclohexyl substituent.
brand name
Hexamic Acid (Abbott).
General Description
The N-cyclohexylsulfamic acid salts of well?known therapeutic agents were prepared.
Flammability and Explosibility
Not classified
Safety Profile
Suspected human carcinogen producing bladder tumors. Poison by intravenous route. LWdly toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of SOx and NOx.
