Uses

4-Pyridylcarbinol can be used in the preparation of 4-pyridine carboxaldehyde.

Synthesis

(a) said 4-methylpyridine is reacted with glacial acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide at a reaction temperature of 70?? C. and a reaction time of 14h, and the molar ratio of said 4-methylpyridine, glacial acetic acid, and hydrogen peroxide is 1:3.5:3, to obtain 4-pyridine nitride;

(b) said 4-pyridine nitride is reacted with acetic anhydride at a reaction temperature of 85?? C. and a reaction time of 6h, and the molar ratio of said 4- pyridine nitrogen oxide and acetic anhydride at a molar ratio of 1:2.5 to obtain 4-pyridine methyl acetate;

(c) said 4-pyridine methyl acetate reacted with potassium hydroxide solution at a reaction time of 4h,said 2-pyridine methyl acetate reacted with potassium hydroxide at a molar ratio of 1:1.5 to obtain 4-pyridine methanol.
