Selenium-79 Usage And Synthesis

Application

Natural plant-based organic selenium is the world's only selenium raw material that is completely soluble in water, with a human absorption and utilization rate exceeding 98%. It can be combined with any edible raw materials to process selenium-enriched foods, selenium-enriched beverages, selenium nutritional supplements and health foods, and cosmetics, according to the People's Republic of China National Standard GB14880-2012—Standard for the Use of Food Fortifiers. Through a series of experiments, selenoproteins have demonstrated the ability to scavenge free radicals and resist lipid peroxidation. For example, a selenoprotein solution with a selenium concentration of 1.0 g/mL exhibits a scavenging rate of over 50% against hydroxyl radicals and superoxide anions, while a protein solution with a selenium content of 5.0 g/mL shows a 60% inhibition rate against MDA formation, protecting red blood cells from oxidative damage. Furthermore, some clinical studies have shown that pure natural soluble plant-based selenoproteins can significantly increase white blood cell count and enhance immunity during chemotherapy. Selenium has many important biological functions, but many of these functions are manifested through different selenoproteins. To date, researchers have discovered more than 30 selenoproteins, of which more than 10 have been identified. However, only a few of these selenoproteins have had their biological functions elucidated. Selenoproteins regulate physiological functions and their relationship with disease through redox reactions. Studies have shown that selenium also has many other functions, including improving animal reproductive capacity; inhibiting the polymerization of macromolecules caused by the oxidation of thiol proteins; preventing lens opacity and cataract formation; synergistic antioxidant effects with nutrients such as vitamin E, vitamin I, allicin, linoleic acid, and gemin; and reducing the toxicity of heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, and mercury. Selenium also has certain anti-AIDS effects, significantly prolonging the survival of HIV-infected patients.
