Application

Benzylphenyl sulfone can be used as a pharmaceutical synthesis intermediate. In existing research on the selective oxidation of thioethers to sulfone compounds, acids, metal oxides, organic peroxides, inorganic peroxides, and halogens are commonly used as oxidants.

Synthesis

100 mLSchlenk reaction tube was sequentially added TEMPO (3.9 mg, 0.025 mmol), methanol (1 mL), CuSO (4.0 mg, 0.025 mmol), 3,5-dimethylpyridine (28.2 ??L, 0.25 mmol), benzene sulfide (58.8 ??L, 0.5 mmol), filled with 1 atm oxygen, sealed reaction tube heated to 65 ?? reaction 72h. After the reaction was cooled to room temperature, add appropriate amount of ethyl acetate, the reaction solution of blue solid precipitation, filtration, concentration under reduced pressure, through the column chromatography, the filtrate. The reaction tube was sealed and heated to 65 ?? for 72 h. At the end of the reaction, the reaction was cooled to room temperature, appropriate amount of ethyl acetate was added, and a blue solid was precipitated in the reaction solution, which was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and purified by column chromatography to obtain the product with a yield of 82%.
