Application
Exfoliated few-layer tin selenide (SnSe) has been used in the field of photovoltaics and infrared optoelectronic devices, radiation detectors, holographic recording systems, electrical switching, and polarity-dependent memory switching devices. SnSe also has great potential for use in memory switching devices, efficient solar materials, and holographic recording systems.
Description
Tin selenide (SnSe) is a narrow band gap semiconductor comprised of environmentally friendly and earth abundant elements.
Preparation
Synthetic- chemical vapour transport (CVT)
Synthesis
Tinselenide(SnS)is manufactured using chemical vapour transport (CVT) crystallisation, with crystals having a high purity (in excess of 99.999%).
Chemical Properties
3–12mm pieces with 99.999% purity; steel gray prisms [MER06] [CER91]
Uses
Tin selenide finds application in low- cost photovoltaics devices and memory-switching devices. It acts as a solid-state lubricant. It is also used for solar cells and anodes for lithium-ion batteries. Further, it is a narrow band-gap semiconductor.
