Chemical Properties

gray powder(s); ortho-rhomb, a=0.4733 nm, b=0.60344 nm, c=0.52056 nm; in 99.5% purity, used as a sputtering target to produce wear-resistant films and semiconducting films; there is also material with formula MoC, 12011-97-1 [CIC73] [STR93] [CER91]

Physical properties

Gray powder. Wear-resistant film. Oxidized in air at 700–800°C. Corroded in molten metals Al, Mg, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Nb. Corrosion resistant in molten Cd, Sn, and Ta

Uses

Molybdenum carbide is used in the production of solid molybdenum carbide grades of hard metal in the manufacture of mixed crystal.?It used as coating material.
