Chemical Properties

White crystal, mp217~220℃, insoluble in water, soluble in hot ethanol, acetone and other solvents.

Uses

2-Amino-4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazine is used as an intermediate of the sulfonylurea herbicide ethersulfuron.

Synthesis

2-Amino-4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazine can be prepared by reacting cyanuric chloride and toluene at -5~10℃ under ammonia gas, and then heating the product with methanol and solid alkali.
