A solution was prepared by dissolving 1.5 mL of 4-methoxybenzaldehyde in 10 mL of toluene at 8 °C. This solution was slowly added dropwise to 7.4 mL of 2M isopropylmagnesium chloride solution. After the dropwise addition was completed, the reaction mixture was gradually warmed to room temperature and stirred continuously for 1 hour. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction was terminated by addition of a half-saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution. Subsequently, the organic and aqueous phases were separated and the aqueous phase was extracted with toluene. All organic phases were combined and washed with an aqueous solution of half-saturated and ammonium chloride, followed by drying with magnesium sulfate. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the resulting product was used for subsequent reactions without further purification. The final yield was 2.12 g in 95% of the theoretical value. The product was analyzed by HPLC (Method 1) with a retention time of 3.22 min.
