Sucrose stearate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Properties
mp 44-52°C HLB 14.5 powder
Uses
Low-foam nonionic detergent, surfactants.
Uses
sucrose stearate is an emollient and emulsifying agent used primarily in makeup preparations. Sucrose stearate enables the formulation of clear gel microemulsion systems with a reduced physiological effect on the skin and eyes.
Uses
Sucrose stearate is a sucrose fatty acids ester, used to enhance the oral delivery of alendronate by enhancing intestinal absorption. Sucrose stearate displays antibacterial properties towards Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium.
Synthesis
1) Preparation of ethyl stearate
Weighed 42.65g of stearic acid was added to a three-necked flask and melted at elevated temperature, 0.5mL of concentrated sulfuric acid and 55mL of anhydrous ethanol were added under stirring, and the reaction was finished after 8h at about 80??. The ethanol was evaporated under reduced pressure, neutralized with KOH to pH 6-7, washed with hot water, static stratification of the upper layer of liquid for the crude ester, the crude ester was refined to obtain the product.
2) Preparation of sucrose ester
Take a certain amount of ethyl stearate, propylene glycol, sucrose and K2CO3, add it to a 250mL three-necked flask, heat it up to 90??C, end the reaction after a certain period of time, add the tartaric acid, evaporate most of the solvent under reduced pressure, and add the distillation residue to 8% sodium chloride solution under stirring to the extent that the two solutions produce an obvious Interface layering, remove the water layer to get the sucrose ester crude product, the crude product with ethyl acetate for further purification, vacuum drying to constant weight, get white waxy solid.
