TETRACHLOROBIS(TETRAHYDROFURAN)TITANIUM(IV) Usage And Synthesis

Chemical Properties

The reaction of tetrachlorodi(tetrahydrofuran)titanium(IV) and magnesium in tetrahydrofuran under argon protection gives [Ti(MgCl)2(THF)]2. It reacts with magnesium directly in a nitrogen atmosphere to give TiN(MgCl)2(THF), which can then be reacted with iodine, via the ITiN(MgCl)2 intermediate, to produce Ti=N(MgCl). Stannous chloride can also reduce it to produce TiCl3(THF)3 and green [TiCl2(THF)4][SnCl5(THF)]: 2 TiCl4(THF)2 + SnCl2 → [trans-TiCl2(THF)4][SnCl5(THF)] + TiCl3(THF)3

Uses

Titanium(IV) chloride tetrahydrofuran complex can be used as a catalyst in intermolecular hydroamination reactions.
