Uses
1,2-Diiodobenzene is useful for Suzuki reaction. It is also used in the synthesis of purino[8,9-f] phenanthridines. Further, it acts as a precursor for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients intermediate.
General Description
Photolysis of 1,2-diiodobenzene in cyclohexane, furan, benzene and benzene containing tetraphenylcyclopentadienone has been studied.
Synthesis
1,2-Diiodobenzene can be prepared from o-iodotrimethylsilane by a one-step reaction with iodine monomer.
0.5 mmol of o-iodotrimethylsilane, 0.5 mmol of monomeric iodine, and 1 mmol of 1-chloromethyl-4-fluoro-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(tetrafluoroborate) salt were weighed into a 25 mL round-bottomed flask, and magnet and 3 mL of acetonitrile were added and stirred for 30 min under room temperature conditions, and at the end of the reaction, acetonitrile solvent was spun off using a rotary evaporator and the residue was dissolved with 1 mL of Dichloromethane was used to dissolve the residue, and the residue was analytically purified by silica gel chromatography to obtain 1,2-diiodobenzene in 96% yield.
