Bis(2-chloroethyl) vinylphosphonate Usage And Synthesis
General Description
Bis(2-chloroethyl)vinylphosphonate [115-98-0] is a commercially availablephosphorus-containing monomer made from ethylene oxide and phosphorus trichloride by way of two other commercially avilable ntermediates, tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphite [140-08-9] and bis(2-chloroethyl) 2-chloroethylphosphonate (discussed earlier as anadditive).
Several applications have been found for bis(2-chloroethyl)vinylphosphonate. Emulsion copolymers with other vinyl monomers have been introduced as flame retardant latexes for textiles and paper applications. Fyrol Bis-Beta has also been found effective as a flame retardant cross-linking agent for cured unsaturated polyesters, especially those based on halogenated acids. The vinylphosphonates have been found to copolymerize particularly well with vinyl halides and vinylidene halides. Vinyl chloride-vinylphosphonate copolymers having inherent plasticity, low flammability, and low smoke generation properties have been described recently (see Vinyl polymers).
