1,2-Epoxytetradecane is used in the preparation of polymeric prodrugs used in treatments of cancer.

Reactivity Profile
1,2-EPOXYTETRADECANE, an epoxide, is incompatible with strong acids, caustics, and peroxides. . Epoxides are highly reactive. They polymerize in the presence of catalysts or when heated. These polymerization reactions can be violent. Compounds in this group react with acids, bases, and oxidizing and reducing agents. They react, possibly violently with water in the presence of acid and other catalysts.

Synthesis
In a 100 mL three-neck flask, 50 mL of ethanol, 2 mL of 1-tetradecene, 2 mg of a mononuclear metalloporphyrin with the general formula (I) structure of mononuclear metalloporphyrin (where R1 = OCH3, R2 = R3 = H, X = Cl, M1 = Co), the reaction temperature was controlled to be 60 ??C, and oxygen was passed in at atmospheric pressure for 6 hours to obtain epoxytetradecane. After gas chromatographic analysis, the conversion of 1-tetradecene was 85%, the yield of 1,2-epoxytetradecane was 82% and the selectivity was 96%.
