General procedure for the synthesis of 1-(2-methyl-5-pyrimidinyl)ethanone from the compound (CAS: 1421922-89-5): the compound (0.47 g) obtained in Reference Example 38-1 was dissolved in acetone (8.0 mL), 1.0 mol/L aqueous hydrochloric acid (2.0 mL) was added, and the reaction was stirred for 24 hours at room temperature. After completion of the reaction, water and saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution were added to the reaction mixture, stirred and extracted using chloroform. The organic layer was separated by a phase separator and the solvent was subsequently removed by distillation under reduced pressure to afford 1-(2-methyl-5-pyrimidinyl)ethanone (0.40 g), the product was a pale yellow solid.1H NMR (600 MHz, chloroform-d) δ ppm: 2.63 (3H, s), 2.80-2.84 (3H, m), 9.13 (2H, s).
